There is Hope
Brain Injury Services of Southwest Virginia (BISSWVA) has served more than 700 clients and families over the past nine years with financial support from foundations, local governments, state government, board members, a golf tournament fundraiser and close friends who understand the importance of the work we do. At this time in our organization's evolution, a few more "friends" would help.
Given the current economic situation, our Board of Trustees has decided, for fiscal year 2010 budget, to use every financial contribution made to BISSWVA to support our operation rather than use a portion to host event fundraisers. Our "There is Hope" campaign goal is to raise $50,000 by December 31, 2009. We need your help to achieve this goal. We ask you to consider the value of the hope and positive change we bring to our clients and their families.
"There is no cure,
but there is hope."
A Case In Point
Hugh came to BISSWVA in 2006 through a vocational counselor familiar with our services. Hugh is a 55 year-old former superintendent and equipment manager who sustained a brain injury while suffering a cardiac arrest.
At the time Hugh came to us, he struggled to solve everyday problems; managing his finances, caring for his personal needs, and forming friendships.
In 2007, with the help of his BISSWVA case manager, Hugh secured part-time employment and began working with a Life Skills Trainer to re-learn how to maintain a clean home and tend to his personal needs. Hugh's financial situation has improved and he is reinvolved in his community - working successfully and enjoying a fulfilling social network.Tthe case manager, with Hugh's permission, maintains a dialog with his family, updating them on his progress.
